This small bathroom was designed in Dom pod Jedlami, one of the most important examples of the Zakopane Style in Polish architecture. Designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz for Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski and built in 1896–1897, the remarkable wooden villa is considered one of Witkiewicz’s finest works and an exceptional example of Poland’s architectural heritage.
The challenge was to introduce a fully functional contemporary bathroom into an extremely small space – just 141 × 141 cm, while respecting the historic character of the entirely wooden house.
The design draws on the materials and craftsmanship traditionally associated with the Podhale region. Larch wood was used throughout the interior, while the bespoke furniture was made by local carpenters. The result is a compact, functional space that feels naturally connected to the architecture and craftsmanship of this unique historic building.
